M.W.Bro. Charles G. Johnson, G.M.
Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Colorado
M.W. Brother Charles G. Johnson was born in Lincoln Nebraska in October of 1944. His family moved to Colorado in 1954 to raise wheat on a dry land farm near Holyoke. He graduated from the Holyoke Public Schools in 1962 and attended Northeastern Junior College where he met Barbara Ann Hansen. After their graduation the couple was married in July of 1965 and moved to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University where Charlie graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After three years of teaching agriculture and science in Grover, Colorado, he accepted a scholarship to return to CSU to pursue a Master of Education degree graduating in the spring of 1971. The family then moved to Akron where he taught for seventeen years. During the spring of 1988 he was named as one of ten recipients of an Award of Excellence as a Public School Teacher by Governor Roy Romer. He continued to serve the patrons of the Akron School District as Elementary Principal for six years, High School Principal for two years as well as Superintendent for eight years before retiring in 2002 after 35 years in the Public Schools.
The Johnsons have two grown children. Teresa Anne and husband Corey Traxler have two children Kaylee and Justin who raise cattle and horses on their ranch near Akron. Their son Gordon has two girls, Kendra and Koral. He lives in Brighton and works in the food service business.
Charlie was a member of the Lion's Club in Grover and Akron and served as Secretary of the Akron Elks Lodge for 17 years. He served on the Morgan Community College Board and on the Advisory Board for the Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System.
MW Brother Johnson was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason in Akron Lodge # 74 in May of 1986. He was Master of Akron Lodge in 1992 and has served as Lodge Secretary since achieving Past Master status. He was appointed to the Grand Lodge line in 2002 by M.W. Brother Joe Hadad where he has had the opportunity to serve with many honored and dedicated Masons.
In May of 1988, Charlie was exalted to the degree of Royal Arch Mason and received the Scottish Rite degrees in Colorado Consistory. He served as Excellent High Priest of Akron Chapter #26 in 1995. He was appointed to the Grand Chapter line by GHP Dennis Harris in 1996 and served as Grand High Priest of Royal Arch Masons of Colorado in 2004. He belongs to Sterling Council #19 of Cryptic Masons serving as Thrice Illustrious Master in 2001 and again in 2003. He is a Knight Templar in Sterling Commandery #35 and served as Eminent Commander in 2004 and 2005. He is also a member of Saint Bernard Commandery # 41 currently serving as Captain General. Illustrious Brother Johnson is an Inspector General Honorary 33° Scottish Rite Mason and was Commander of Kadosh of Denver Consistory in 2000. He is a member of El Jebel Shrine, Research Lodge of Colorado, Allied Masonic Degrees, Kincora Council of Knight Masons, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, and Red Cross of Constantine.
Charlie and Barbara are very proud of the accomplishments of their children and are especially gratified by the activities of their grandchildren who are active scholars and athletes. The Johnsons are equally proud of their rural heritage on the Plains north of Akron and are pleased to say that they can see for about 100 miles in every direction.
